Summer Bridge Program

 

51ÊÓÆµ University Historically Black Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Program, HBCU-UP, strives through its member institutions to increase the quality and quantity of students completing baccalaureate degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Students will participate in research, mentoring, academic enrichment, opportunities for networking and receive information about graduate schools across the country. During the school year, students are eligible to be selected for a paid research opportunity.

The Summer Bridge Enrichment Program is a two-week, on-campus experience designed for high school seniors who will enter 51ÊÓÆµ University as freshmen in the fall. The program gives students the opportunity to explore campus life, connect with peers and mentors, and prepare for academic success. Participants will engage in coursework in the sciences and English, learn essential campus survival skills, receive personalized advising and mentoring, discover their learning styles—and earn a stipend.

Eligibility

 

EligibilityÌý

To participate in the 51ÊÓÆµ UniversityÌýHBCU UP program an applicant must be:Ìý

  1. Planning to attend 51ÊÓÆµ University
  2. Planning to major in the Sciences or Mathematics
  3. Planning to attend graduate school after graduation
  4. U.S. citizen or a permanent resident
  5. Interested in conducting research

A minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 (B) is required and must be maintained during the Academic Year.Ìý

Interested?

Interested students should complete the application form and return it to the Program Manager. He/she should provide an official transcript, an essay (1-2 pages) expressing his/her interests and career goals and three letters of recommendation from:

  1. Science Professor
  2. Mathematics Professor
  3. Principal
