The 51��Ƶ University Department of Communication’s Film and Television (FTV) program has received national and international recognition for its student films, documentaries, and broadcast projects. From 2022 to 2024, FTV students have won top awards at prestigious festivals, including the Lignum Vitae Film Festival, Sonscreen Film Festival, Black Focus Film Festival, HBCU First Look Film Festival, and Society of Adventist Communicators Conference. FTV in Action: A Visual Journey

Experience the creativity, passion, and hard work of our Film & Television students through photos that capture behind-the-scenes moments, award-winning projects, and industry experiences.

1. The specific and primary purpose is to provide a vehicle through which communication students may enhance their skills and experience by completing practical projects, and working with professional and semi-professional communicators and organizations.
2. The general purpose is to actively promote the highest standards of communication creativity, performance, education and research.

Club Objectives

1. To increase the skill level of members, through the use of projects (Inside 51��Ƶ, Commercials, Public Relations) so members will be able to have experience in there area of interest
2. To develop a sense of comradeship between Communication majors and minors
3. To make the club more visible in the community and throughout campus (ie, community service activities, participation in preliminaries at Prayer Meeting, etc.)
4. To provide networking outlets to secure internships and jobs after graduation.
5. To establish a system of mentoring

Membership

Members – Any major or minor regularly enrolled at 51��Ƶ University who maintains a minimum of 2.0 GPA – Dues ~ $10 per semester, $18 per year

Club Officer – Any student member is nomination as a club officer who:

1. Meets the University’s eligibility of a 2.5 GPA
2. Is a communication major or minor and
3. Is a dues-paying club member

Officer Positions – president, president-elect (vice president), secretary, treasurer, chaplain, and public relations officer.  Appointed officers are: assistant secretary and assistant public relations officer

Textbook Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria –  the club will give 3 textbook scholarships in the form of $75 bookstore vouchers.  Applicants must:

1. Be a registered member of the club for at least one semester;
2. Have dues paid currently
3. Have met club meeting attendance requirements (two unexcused absences allowed)
4. Have the application turned in by the deadline

The Department of Communication at 51��Ƶ University offers students valuable internship opportunities to gain practical experience in various fields. These internships are designed to complement academic learning and prepare students for successful careers in communication.

1. Public Relations Intern

���� – Assist with media relations, event planning, and content creation for local non-profits.

���� – Gain experience in crafting press releases and managing social media accounts.

2. Broadcast Journalism Intern

���� – Engage in hands-on experience with audio and video production for campus radio and television stations.

���� – Participate in news gathering, editing, and on-air reporting.

���� – Write articles, conduct interviews, and report on campus events for the university’s newspaper or online publication.

���� – Work on multimedia storytelling projects.

3. Social Media Intern

���� – Help manage and create content for various social media platforms.

���� – Analyze engagement metrics and assist in developing social media strategies.

4. Corporate Communication Intern

���� – Collaborate with corporate teams to assist in internal communications, employee engagement, and branding initiatives.

���� – Support the development of communication strategies and presentations.

5. Film and TV Production Intern

���� – Assist with pre-production, shooting, and post-production for film and television projects.

���� – Gain hands-on experience with equipment and editing software.

6. Graphic Design Intern

���� – Work on creating visual content for marketing materials, websites, and social media.

���� – Collaborate with teams to develop branding and promotional strategies.

7. Photography Intern

���� – Capture images for events, publications, and promotional materials.

���� – Assist in editing and organizing a photography portfolio for university projects.

1. NAOUBJ

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) at 51��Ƶ University is a student chapter of the national organization dedicated to supporting Black journalists and media professionals. It aims to foster the development and advancement of students interested in journalism and media careers.

Mission and Goals

NABJ’s mission includes:

• Promoting diversity in journalism and media industries.
• Providing resources, mentorship, and professional development for aspiring journalists.
• Advocating for fair representation and coverage of Black communities in the media.
